Transfusion medicine (or Transfusiology) is the branch of medicine that is concerned with transfusion of blood and blood components. Transfusion Medicine is usually a branch of clinical pathology. The blood donor center is the facility that collects and processes blood products.
The Division of Transfusion Medicine is responsible for the collection and testing of blood to be given to patients at Mayo Clinic (traditional "blood banking"). Transfusion Medicine also performs therapeutic apheresis procedures to treat patients with neurologic, kidney and blood diseases.
